Seniors recount fond experiences in Cantamus

By Katie Ramsey

Vocal warm-ups, arduous rehearsals, the commotion that occurs when preparing for concerts — all of this is familiar for the 13 senior members of Cantamus. While the majority of these seniors have been involved in TPA’s honors choir since they were restless little freshmen, there have been many exceptional additions to the choir over the span of a few years. The experience we have had with Cantamus has been more than satisfying.

“Cantamus has been a great experience. It has taught me a lot about life and music,” Anna Medill says. “When I joined Cantamus, a new world of possibility opened up to me, such as the Solo and Ensemble festival and the ASU choral leadership workshop.”

As seniors, we are looking forward to making our last year in Cantamus a memorable and fulfilling one. In Cantamus, we have made lasting friendships, we have been exposed to a wide repertoire of music ranging from the Beatles to Handel, and we have been blessed with an extensive variety of opportunities.

“Cantamus has been a really fulfilling experience,” another senior, Caroline Kinsley, says. “It has allowed me to pursue skills and opportunities that I never thought I could.”

Before we know it, we will be saying farewell to those exhaustingly early but gratifying rehearsals, the familiar rehearsal space, and the faces we have become familiar with. As we move forward, Cantamus may either remain in our memories as one of our most special high school experiences, or may become a blur in a blizzard of new occurrences. Regardless, Cantamus was an enriching experience for all of us. Caroline adds, “In my experience with Cantamus, I have grown as a performer, a fine arts student, and a person.”
