April Junior High Sports Roundup

By Cole Klassen

It is time for – insert drumroll here – another Junior High sports roundup. These teams have been pouring a tireless effort into their respective sports and deserve to be recognized.

Track and Field: Track and field is just about wrapping up with meets against Salt River and other schools. Coach Wilkison says, “This Wednesday will involve Knights competing in a more diverse group of track and field disciplines, with athletes entered in hurdles, long jump and shot put for the first time.” He says, “All the athletes are working hard and making progress.”

It seems like Coach Wilkison really enjoys teaching his team and these kids seem to be working extremely hard. Good luck to all the athletes in track and field.

Boys Basketball: Basketball is just getting started with the team at a 3-2 record so far. Coach Phelan feels that “Coach McCullough and I have seen good growth in the boys as a team and individually this season thus far.  Big challenges are coming up these next couple of weeks with games against Northwest Christian, Horizon Honors, and Gilbert Christian, who recently beat us 41-26.  It will be a good test of our improvement to look at how we play in that game.”

Coach Phelan is very proud of his team thus far and explains that his goals are “to be competitive in every game and to represent TPA well to other schools with our sportsmanship and teamwork.  We set more specific and measurable individual and team goals each game as well.”

We all wish the boys basketball team the best of luck for the season.
