Season off to strong start for TPA baseball team

By Carter Sampson

Everybody loves to eat, and many people love sports. Baseball is the activity that combines both of those passions. Athletes show off their skill while eating sunflower seeds and chewing gum. It’s pretty clear why baseball is known as “America’s pastime.”

While reveling in this great sport, our Knights baseball team has had great success in competition. To start the season, they beat Bourgade Catholic in a practice scrimmage, by a score of 6-5. This victory against a strong program in the division above TPA bodes well for the forthcoming season.

The highlight of that scrimmage was definitely when Freshman Griffin Bodow accidentally drilled Bourgade’s batter in the back of the head with his throwback to the pitcher.

The last week of February was a highly eventful one, thanks to the Cougar Classic tournament. Our Knights played four games over the span of four days! The squad won two of the games, against Arizona Lutheran Academy and Glendale Prep.

In the first of the tournament games, versus ALA, the season got a great start. The first two batters, Jacob Brown and Gabe Lebeah, both hit triples, leaving the other team silent in their dugout. In that game, Gabe hit one more triple along with a double, and the rest of the team continued to crush ALA’s pitches.

Gabe said, “If we play the way we played our first game, we will be hard to beat. We’ve got some really good underclassmen, and solid returning varsity starters.”

This should be a great season for the Knights, led by Seniors Gabe Lebeah, Jacob Brown, and Christian “Babe Ruth” Gaylor. Come watch them play!
