Jr.High Basketball Fights through Adversity

By Hayden Sampson
Mark Twain once said,” It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.” This is true for Tempe Prep’s Junior High Girls basketball team. They have battled with teams much larger than them, and have made it through. They are currently undefeated, and are expecting to keep it going.
Maria Brittain, when asked what the team needs to keep the roll going, said, ”We need to hustle down the court, and keep up the teamwork. The more we do to out-work the other team, the closer we are to a win.”
The team is certainly working hard. Mrs. Flores, head coach, says,” The girls’ basketball teams are doing great. Both teams, JV and Varsity, are undefeated at this time (3-0). Our quote for the season is ‘games are won at practice, play as a team, win as a team.’ We have incorporated timed shooting drills and running between drills for our warmups each practice. I believe this has helped us with our energy during the game and hitting those key layups on fast break opportunities.”
This obviously hard working team is going places. Go Lady Knights!
