Junior Classical League

I came, I saw, I taught.” This is what co-founder Carter Sampson said about the new Junior Classical League (JCL) introduced at TPA. A slight twist to the Caesar quote, Mr. Sampson decided to make a change in the TPA’s extracurricular activities. Carter said that he wanted to influence the younger kids to take their Latin to the next level, to not only mandatorily take the class but rather enjoy Latin as a whole.

Mrs. Moffitt, our college counselor, told Emma (Moriarty) and I about the JCL, an organization dedicating to teaching people about the ways of the Romans.”

Emma furthers by saying, “With the JCL intact, kids from all over the state come together to compete and test who really has the superior Latin.”

Every Wednesday morning from 7:30-7:55, Emma and Carter are joined by other students that are passionate about Latin. They play games, eat food and have a blast. “I’m happy with the turnout. Every week that passes, more and more kids show up and it’s fun for everyone,” said Emma.

The club members play games like Jeopardy every Wednesday and learn about Latin grammar, but also learn about Roman history and their culture. “Mr. Enloe, along with our other previous Latin teachers, inspire us every day to learn about our history, and how portions of English have been brought up,” says Emma.

Overall, the two are very proud of all the work everyone is putting into the JCL and believe that as time passes, the club is only going to be growing stronger.
