‘My Fair Lady’ opening soon

By Cole Klassen

Lights! Camera! Action! Soon, the Zelman Center will be filled with singing, as the musical kicks off into high gear. This year, the musical is My Fair Lady, which opened on Broadway in 1956. It was extremely popular and won many awards.
Mr. Sanderson  chose this play “for several reasons. First, it really is one of the best musicals ever written. It’s got a great score, it’s funny, it’s dramatic, and it has a really interesting story with some very memorable characters. It is truly a classic, and deserves to be. We also knew that it would be a good fit for the school and that the community would enjoy it.”
However, is a small school such as TPA able to perform such a classic musical? Mr. Sanderson says: “It has been very difficult to pull off a show with so many period (early 1900s) costumes, sets, and props on a very small budget. It’s kind of incredible that as a small charter school, we’ve been able to do this. However, we’ve had the help of some truly outstanding parents, including Mrs. McIntosh, Mrs. Kniaz, Mrs. Stough, Mrs. Putrasahan, Mr. Harb, and Mr. Maza.”
It’s coming together well, and should be a blast to watch. If you’re still not convinced, I’ll leave you with this from Mr. Sanderson: ”People should come see it because it is a wonderful musical that will offer some very impressive performances. It will delight your ears, eyes, and heart, and it is a great time for the whole family.”Please come out and enjoy. Performances are April 14-17.
