Art Club recreates Michelangelo’s ‘Creation of Adam’

By Jasmyn Genchev

Many of you may have noticed the large mural being painted on the outside of the building east of Zelman. If you did, you should know this mural is one of the Art Club’s first major projects.

According to Jasmine Antony (12A) the art club aims “to bring out the “beauty” part of Tempe Prep’s motto by improving the school’s appearance and creating a general appreciation and awareness of art.

The reaching hands of “The Creation of Adam” piece by Michelangelo was the most “appropriate piece to portray on the walls of the school,” Jasmine said. It praises and honors Michelangelo’s ability to “beautifully and accurately capture form, shadows and coloring in his work.”

The mural is planned to be completed one week before finals, at the latest, but with limited meeting times (officially every Tuesday after school) and several Art Club students focusing on studying, it has been a challenge for this ongoing project to be completed. With the cramped schedule, the Art Club will do its best to meet up at least twice a week to work on the unfinished parts of the mural.

Not only is time a huge obstacle, but the Art Club members’ abilities are no match compared to that of Michelangelo, and painting the mural has been “beyond all of the Art Club’s experience. However, not for Art Club Advisor Mr. Savaglio, who fortunately, has been able to give the Art Club plenty of much-needed advice.

Jasmine “hopes that this project will encourage other students to join Art Club in the future!”

And all we can say is, keep up the good work in bringing out the beauty of TPA.
