VB Var 009 (1 of 1)Where does skill come from? Some are born with it while others have to work hard to get it. The TPA volleyball team is filled with both types of players. They have all worked hard to get to where they are and they all have had to make some adjustment to the changes within the team. Even though the varsity volleyball team has a new coach, they were able to quickly adapt to the changes and the different play style.

This year the varsity volleyball team took on three new freshmen who showed tremendous talent and promising skill during the game. Their coach, Lindy Dyer, says the varsity team has a lot of potential and that their tactics are to win the game. Nicky Gourley said after a recent game, “I’m a person whose nerves get to me but it feels good to play and win a point!”

One player in particular was constantly diving, making amazing sets, and communicating to her team. This was Lily Mills whose offense and defense made multiple saves and points against the opposition.

Lily said after the game, “In order to be a good team, you have to have a good mindset, communicate, and work together. Communication is key to winning a game!”

This year, there will be a lot of intense and close games but Tempe Prep will pull through like we always do. You can cheer on the TPA volleyball team in their next home game on Sept. 14 at Trivium Prep at 6 p.m.
