Lady knights defy expectations, finish 3rd in state

Great memories live on from the fall sports season. Our Lady Knights volleyball team entered into the state tournament ranked 30th. They finished the tournament as underdogs, making it to the semi-finals and placing 3rd in state, going way further than they had expected.

VB Var 026Senior Niki Gourley explains: “At first we didn’t expect to go far but as we kept doing better, other teams would take us more seriously and we really succeeded.” The lesson from this season is to never underestimate yourself.

The girls began their season not consistently winning games, but they ended their season with an eight-game winning streak. The team learned to work together, and had fun with their new coach this season. Niki says her favorite memories from this season were “bonding with my teammates – we did so much stuff together – and also beating Horizon Honors who was the Number 2 seed.”

Beyond success on the court, the girls enjoyed lots of team activities and team bonding, including attending head coach Lindy Dyer’s wedding.

This season has been a successful one for girls’ volleyball, and they have grown so much since their last season and even the beginning of the year. It will be exciting to see how they continue to grow for future seasons.
