Tempe Prep is home to many talented young artists. But there is one in particular that stands out. Her name is Emelia Boyle. She is in seventh grade and one of the best aspiring artists Mr. Savaglio has ever seen.

“Emelia Boyle is one of many inspiring 7th grade art students this year, but one thing that sets her a bit above the other (talented) students is that she gives just as much attention to detail on ‘academic studio art projects’ (a still-life for example) as she does the more creative and open-ended projects,” he said. “She does not care if an art project is ‘fun’ or not, she simply tries her hardest to create the best art project possible in any given situation.

“She also joined Art Club, worked on her own in her sketchbook over the summer of 2017, and this had paid dividends in her artistic development. Future 8th graders should really consider either joining Art Club or working on your skills on your own between school years. You’ll be pleasantly surprised how much you can improve, just like Ms. Boyle,” he said.

Emelia has always been passionate about art. She has been drawing all her life, which gives her tons of experience. In fact, it all started in sixth grade, when Emmy discovered she wanted to pursue art as a career because of taking art class here at TPA. Emmy plans to attend an art college in the future so she can improve her art skills and style. Additionally, she hopefully wants to sell her artwork and make some money off her hobby and profession.

According to Emelia, there are so many things to like about art. She enjoys sketching or even just drawing randomly on her homework. She likes to keep her drawings easy and simple without the requirement of fancy art tools such as paint brushes or clay.

When I asked her what was her favorite projects in Art Club or art class, her answer was a bit surprising. Instead of enjoying a specific art project, Emmy delights in the sketches in the rough draft before the actual final draft. She said, “It paints a portrait of what the art would look like when I am finished.”

Lastly, her favorite thing about art is when she has a silent and serene environment around her while she is working. This allows her to really concentrate on her artwork only. But sometimes Emmy likes the company of her friends and family to give her inspiration, or so she can draw with them.

We look forward into seeing more of Emelia’s art work as she progresses throughout the year and high school.
