As wrestling comes to a close, two seniors stand out as the reason Tempe Prep has a thriving wrestling program: Brendan Phelan and Max Hoyt.

It has been a season full of challenges and victories, and a lot has been learned. Max Hoyt, with a record of 18-6, had this to say about wrestling: “It’s a very physical sport, and something I’ve been wanting to do all my life. Anyone who wants to get strong and fit should really do wrestling.” Having left a legacy for TPA wrestlers to look up to, the program will miss him.

Brendan Phelan, with a record of 26-10, had some advice for younger students. “The reason I did wrestling was because I really wanted to get jacked, and to become a better person. I did both of those things. I really recommend wrestling to other students.”

Brendan also mentioned learning the virtue of patience. He explained that just a few weeks ago he had a tournament which was 18 hours long. However, he said he had a great time with the team and really gained an appreciation for patience. “I’ve learned so much this year and hope that others can have this experience as well.”
