Middle School Sports Roundup

By Nolan Bailey

This winter has been a season of not just success but improvement as well. All of the middle school sports teams have put in tremendous effort to make their season great.

Girls Soccer

Two years ago middle school soccer was a co-ed sport meaning that both boys and girls played on the same team. Just recently has TPA been able to create two middle school soccer teams and both teams are doing very well. The girls soccer team has had a great season and it is not over yet. They won their first playoff game with an astounding 5-0 score against North Phoenix and they are going into the second round of the playoffs with their heads held high.

Boys Soccer

The boys soccer team also had their first playoff game and won 5-3 in overtime. Both the head and assistant coaches are TPA alums who say that a good work ethic is the key to success. “If you play 50% in practice you will play 50% in the game,” Coach G says. He believes that you should always play at 100% if you want to win. Both soccer teams are working hard and we wish them luck in their next playoff games.

Baseball

The middle school baseball team had their first win two weeks ago against Arete Prep. Although the team has not won many games this season they have improved tremendously individually and also as a team. “I am honored to have had the opportunity to coach the team this season,” Coach Prost said. He also said that, “The team has collectively developed and improved each outing across the season.” Well done Knights!

Softball

Softball has also had a great season as well, full of tons of improvement. Coach Goodykoontz says, “We had a great work ethic. The girls worked hard in practice, and they really made a commitment to getting better, and to each other.” These athletes were put in a tough position. They had to play different positions throughout the season that they had no experience in. “And our attitude never wavered,” their coach said. All of their hard work paid off. “Every player on the team has gotten better.” Great job Knights. Keep up the good work and good luck!
