If there was an award for best social media presence by a sports team at Tempe Prep, it would undoubtedly go to the girls soccer team. The girls’ Instagram account, owned by coach Megan Richardson, has been a staple of the team for the past couple years. The account posts notifications of games, along with photos from during and after their games. It is a great way for fans to follow their season, especially in a season with few fans. And if the team is able to get someone to help, you might even get to catch a game being live streamed from the account.

So far this season, the team has been able to post their iconic “dubs on the forehead” photo twice. After each win, they get a team photo holding up a W and smiling (even though you can’t see their smiles). Their most recent post-win photo was a special one. It came after a thriller of a game against Rancho Solano. The Lady Knights finished the first 80 minutes tied at 2-2, forcing the game into an overtime showdown. The girls stepped up to the challenge and put two more goals into the back of the net while holding down their half. They earned themselves a hard-fought 4-2 victory. Coach Megan commented after the game, saying, “Still room for improvement, but I’m so proud of them for not giving up and earning that ‘W.’”
The team has hopes to earn a lot more W’s. The team is built strong and believes they have a good shot at making a deep playoff run. There are the three captains who have been playing for varsity since freshman year, players from every grade who love to compete at high levels, and a bench with many players who can make an impact on the field.
It is a fun team to watch as well, because they know how to have fun while competing. And thankfully for us fans, they give us a great platform to watch them do it. So go ahead and follow @tempeprepgirlssoccer on Instagram to cheer the Lady Knights as they look to keep posing with their W’s up.
