TPA Volleyball Soars to the Challenge

When asked what she thinks first when she hears the word “volleyball,” Rebekah Smaw says “Bump, set, spike!” While she may not be entirely wrong, there are some details missing. Such as the countless hours dedicated athletes put into practice and the complex strategies the teams create to help them win.
So far, the varsity volleyball team has been doing exceptionally well, but the junior varsity team has been struggling a bit. Sophomore Niki Gourley shares some insight on how the JV team has been doing this fall season: “We had a rough start. We are down a few players since last year so we only have six now, five of which are freshmen. The stakes are pretty high because if anyone gets injured, we don’t have any backup players. We play the whole game, having to put in double the effort as teams who switch out athletes. Our situation helps us though because it makes us more united and determined to win.” It’s great to see that our Lady Knights are making the best of a sticky situation!
The varsity team is also very motivated and has a strong record. They have been playing some tough teams, like their Wednesday game at Florence, but always persevere even if they seem to be outmatched. They are close to being ranked in the top 50 teams for Arizona (currently they are 55) and there is no doubt that our team will continue doing their best at every single match.
Let’s help motivate our volleyball teams by coming out to games and cheering them on!
