Girls soccer team tastes victory as popularity grows

By Carter Sampson

This was a hard article to write. It is a nigh impossible task to put this squad under one description. At keeper is Mary Shroll, laughing and waving before she dives to save a goal. Then there are Morgan Cryder and Lauren Casey, who look ready enough to take someone’s head off (and sometimes almost do). The bench and field are full of such different characters; the only description I can apply to all of them is that they play hard and have fun together.

SoccerVG005-3170Freshman Anna Moriarty said, “The team grew a lot closer with all the games we had, and we improved a lot in our skills. We’re all really supportive of each other. Your teammates always make it fun for games.”

Although the Knights faced a tough schedule, they came out with a great win over the Horizon Honors Eagles. Lauren Casey had two goals and Gyllian Gaylor had one, leading the team to a 3-2 victory.

The popularity of girls soccer has also grown a lot since last year. Morgan Cryder said, “We got a lot of new girls to come out, which is great. This was a great team-building experience. We definitely improved on our communication and also really connected on and off the field with each other.”

The season was full of ups and downs, but the enthusiasm of the team led them to a lot of fun. Their influx of players and young stars bodes well for the future. Go Knights!
