Cantamus visits Disneyland and showcases their voices

Singing along to Disney songs has finally come in handy for the members of Cantamus, who  traveled to record some of those songs at Disneyland in California from March 18-20.

Along with going on rides and bonding together, the choir was also a part of a Vocal Soundtrack Workshop. Mrs. Stewart, the choir director, explains that the group is there to record certain parts of classic Disney songs and to get added to the movie’s soundtrack. She says, “We record them in a backlot recording studio and they match them up to the animation.”

While Cantamus’ voices will not be in the official version of the CDs or digitals of the movies, they do get to keep a scene in which they are added. These recordings will be shown in their upcoming concert on April 27. The three songs they sang were “I See the Light” from “Tangled”, “The Blue Umbrella” from Pixar’s short “The Blue Umbrella” and “Muppet Theme” from “The Muppets.”

Over their three-day trip, the choir got to spend time together. Not only were they exposed to a great opportunity, but they were able to connect together. Mrs. Stewart hopes that the students have gotten closer through this trip. She says, “I hope they learn to appreciate the skill of a recording artist, as well as bond and get to know each other as we travel together.”

Don’t forget to go to their upcoming concert to see their recordings and all their hard work. If you are interested in a similar experience, Cantamus is open to all high schoolers and auditions will be held towards the beginning of next school year.
