High School Swim November Edition

By Hannah Frazier

Another amazing high school swim season comes to an end with new head coach, alumna Maria Zello, who graduated TPA in 2018. She has taken over as head coach of the swim team after five years as the assistant coach.

Coach Zello says, “I think I can speak for all the swimmers that we had a blast.” Many members of the team set new personal records and reached their goals during this season.

One swimmer, senior Nick Murray, qualified for the state swim meet while many other swimmers barely missed the cutoff.

Coach Zello notes her season highlights were when sophomore Stella Anderson broke sub-30 seconds in her 50 Free at the home meet against Tempe High, and when senior Naomi Palmer dropped 11 seconds in her 100 Fly.

Maria says, “My favorite thing about coaching is getting to still be a part of the TPA community.” She really enjoyed her time on the swim team when she was in high school and she hopes to spread that joy to our student swimmers for many years to come.
