Tempe Prep campus undergoes summer improvement

Newly painted benches improve the look of the Tempe Prep campus.

There were many changes to the Tempe Prep campus over the summer, ranging from new artwork to construction.

The most noticeable and important change is the new artificial turf around the campus, which replaced the old pea gravel. When asked about the reason for the change, Dr. Porter said, “We thought that it would make the campus look nicer. When something looks nicer, people feel better about being there. Especially when you’re in a really dry, hot climate like here.”

Another big project was moving Rachel’s Garden from the backyard of the TPA house by the east side of the campus to the wall of the student union, to give students a chance to enjoy the fountain and the mural which was painted by Mrs. Rynish. The addition of benches and an awning next to the garden also gives students a chance to relax and sit.

There were also other changes, ranging from the spray painting of benches and the basketball hoops to painting various other areas, done by Mr. Lambros.

The person who led and organized and worked on the majority of the changes was the Facilities Director, Mr. Rynish.

He wasn’t alone, however, in renovating the campus. His son, 9th grader Lincoln Rynish, his daughter Ellanor Rynish and their cousin Ethan all worked on changes around the campus over the summer, as well.

The majority of the work occurred from mid-June to late July.

Most of the renovation finances were spent on the turf, costing around $5,000, according to Dr. Porter. The other changes were voluntary and cost very little compared to the turf project.

“You know we always try to do things in a way that we get the most we can for not the least amount of money, but a good amount of money so we’re not overspending.” Dr. Porter said, referring to the cost of the changes.

There still are more changes to come in the future, but we will have to wait and see what they are!
